According to the Fremont Police Department, it was reported that a train may have struck a person near the Miles Newton Bridge. Emergency crews searched the area and recovered a body from the Sandusky River at 3 p.m. Police said the body found was identified as Gasper G. Hinojosa, 86, of Fremont.
In a release, the police department said the incident occurred at 1:50 p.m. near the railroad crossing at the bridge after Norfolk Southern reported a train may have struck a person. Preliminary findings indicate that Hinojosa was struck by the train while walking on the trestle.
Police add that additional information will be released as it becomes available. The incident remains under investigation pending a report from the Sandusky County Coroner’s Office.
